Science Outcome
ST3-8ES - describes how discoveries by people from different cultures and times have contributed to advancing scientific understanding of the solar system ST3-5WT - plans and implements a design process, selecting a range of tools, equipment, materials and techniques to produce solutions that address the design criteria and identified constraints English Outcome EN3-2A - composes, edits and presents well-structured and coherent texts Indicators 1. being able to use the correct terminology to describe and explain solar system 2. effectively use AURASMA to communicate information about their 'expert' planet 3. work collaboratively with peers to complete a group project Aim & Purpose The aim of this lesson is for students to use AURASMA to communicate and report back on information they have learnt over the last three lessons. Additionally, it is an opportunity for students to further explore the uses of AURASMA to foster creativity. Prior ExperiencesStudents have worked with AURASMA prior to this module and would be considered knowledgeable regarding how the app works and what is needed for it to function. Each student has their own AURASMA account. Thus, in this lesson, it is an aim for students to use AURASMA as a tool to foster creativity; in the way they choose to present their information through AURASMA.
ActivitiesActivity 1: Planning your AURASMA presentation
Now that you have finished your group model, its time to create your very own AURAS! Looking at the scaffold your Expert Teams have created, use this information to create a video clip where others can watch and learn information you have found through your investigations. In the yellow box at the front of the classroom, there are some props that you can use. Materials: Some of these props include: 1. A lab coat 2. Science goggles 3. A blazer 4. A clipboard There's much more! Each group will be given a chance to look at the props before you start planning. It may give you some good ideas! You can even take on a role of an astronaut, a scientist, a reporter or a teacher! Some Ideas of how to present: - you can write a short song - you can write a poem - you can do a dance with the relevant information - you can present a news report - you can do anything! You can do anything! Once you have chosen how you would like to present, start planning what you are going to say. You can write it out like a script. Remember that the planet you are creating an AURAS for is the one you have investigated in your Expert Teams! Talk to your Home Team members and collaborate on your ideas! It does not matter if more than one person is using the same idea! Activity 2: Creating your Aurasma Below is a checklist. Make sure your have covered all your points in the AURA. 1. Name of the planet 2. Three features of the planets - size, colour, landscape 3. Where it is located in the solar system 4. Something you found interesting when your were investigating this planet If you would like, cardboard and textas are also available next to the yellow box at the front of the classroom for you to create posters to include in your AURA. Working in groups of 3 with members in your Home Team, give assistance to help each other record your AURAS. There will be 3 iPads allocated to each Home Team. Use the AURASMA app on the iPads. Please remember to share your Auras in the Aurasma Studio, so that others can view what you have created. Use the keywords: Solar System year 5 Take a photo of your planet (in the model you have created) as your trigger image. Your overlay will be a video of your choice. |
Assessment
Formative Assessment
In Activity 1 - Observing students engagement and aid them in creating ideas for the AURAS.
In Activity 2 - Observe the way students are collaborating with each other, with the technology, and with the information they have gathered.
